Julian Assange puts his fist up as he is taken from court in London on May 1. By Avi Selk Avi Selk Reporter Email Bio Follow May 24 at 5:51 PM Few reporters would willingly compare themselves to Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder arrested in Britain last month, who’s accused of recklessly publishing leaked U.S. military documents that endangered sources and American soldiers.
“It’s very, very dangerous,” said Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., a media lawyer who represented CNN’s Jim Acosta when he was barred from the White House for two weeks last November, among other high-profile cases. “A fundamental principle of the First Amendment is that journalists have the right to publish truthful information, even when a source may have broken the law to provide that information,” reads a statement from Dean Baquet, executive editor of the New York Times, which has worked with Assange to publish classified material.
The group’s interim North American executive director, Sabine Dolan, said charging someone for publishing classified information reminded her of countries near the rock-bottom of the list — particularly Turkey, where her group counts dozens of reporters jailed since 2016.
Wait to see. Accountability should be held To those that put out TOP SECRET info.
Even though Assange was partly responsible for electing tRUMP by releasing 1000's of Hillary & DNC emails & I want to smack him for it, I defend his journalistic right to do it. What's happening to Assange is dangerous! Soon we'll be jailed for calling tRUMP a FRAUD, which he is.
After Hillary’s comment about drone striking Assange I worry about his safety in USA custody. He has much information that the deep state doesn’t want out.
Assange is a hero! Sadly, the gopneedsnto cover up what he knows about them!
pmcall Why the scare quotes? You already attribute. We used to call this “editorializing.”
Julian is very popular. Britain have asked him to stay at their place for a year or so. Sweden is making a bed for him there. And then there is America, they are planning a big welcome
Press observed a conduct code .
What is wrong about showing the truth. His information is more accurate then NYT, CNN and MSNBC

HACKING IS NOT JOURNALISM.
If disclosing of truth is being charged, but openly sharing edited video (fake message) to slander opposition party is ok. What a system is it?
'advocates say....' That's where i stopped reading.
Guy should get a fucking medal and freedom, for exposing mass corruption. Instead, the real law breakers are walking free
Yet when POTUS allows AG Barr to release at will and be 100% transparent, the fake news like hypocrites tells their readers “it’s dangerous”.

Espionage is not journalism.
Freedom is a myth
Bullshit. He was a hacker not a journalist. He hacked govt computers. It's not about freedom of the press.
If Assange were, you know, a journalist then it would be a problem. He’s not.
How? None of his charges relate to publishing.
No, its not because Julian Assange is not a journalist. He's a criminal hacker who steals information and posts it online to attack security of the enemies of Russia. An asset of the Kremlin.
