Nick Kyrgios doesn’t have the threat of further fines or penalties hanging over his head after his on-court tantrum at the Italian Open | scottspits

The 24-year-old Australian, unseeded at the French Open for the second straight major, was defaulted in Rome, fined $32,458 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Kyrgios also forfeited $54,590 in prizemoney as well as ranking points for last week’s tournament.

The ugly incident in Rome came in the aftermath of Kyrgios unloading on various top players - putting Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Fernando Verdasco in his sights - during an explosive interview on theA spokesperson for the ATP confirmed Kyrgios, the world No. 36, was not facing further sanctions.

Not that Kyrgios might be that concerned with his prospects on clay in Paris, despite the removal of further potential penalties. The two-time grand slam quarter-finalist unloaded on Roland Garros and all things clay while training for the second major of 2019 at Wimbledon in London this week. While all eyes will be on Kyrgios’ antics in Paris, 21st seed Alex de Minaur heads Australia’s male contingent, alongside Matthew Ebden, John Millman, Jordan Thompson, Bernard Tomic and wildcard Alexei Popyrin, also a former French Open junior champion.
