'A loss for the continent of Africa': Tributes flow for Kenyan author and gay rights activist Binyavanga Wainaina

Award-winning Kenyan author and gay rights activist Binyavanga Wainaina has died at the age of 48, one of his publishers said.

"His death is not just a loss for Kenya, but a loss for the continent of Africa. He was a key member of the community of artists on the continent," Mr Maliti said.Wainaina became internationally known after receiving the prestigious Caine Prize for African writing in 2002.Two years later, Wainaina announced via Twitter that he was HIV-positive.

Kenyans took to social media to commemorate the author whose works include 'How to Write About Africa' , 'One Day I Will Write About This Place: A Memoir' and 'Nguva Na Nyoka' .
