Disgraced former Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has walked free from a southern NSW jail today after serving 11 months for electoral fraud.During his time in jail he allegedly assaulted a prison guard and was placed in solitary confinementThe businessman and property developer first made headlines in 2015 after illegally shutting down a street in western Sydney for his extravagant wedding.

Before entering the media scrum, he promised to make a statement, and appeared to be rehearsing lines with his lawyer Zali Burrows.Smiling as he walked past the cameras waiting outside, Mr Mehajer stepped into a waiting Mercedes van which whisked him away to begin the long drive back to Sydney.that helped win him a spot on Auburn City Council.

Mr Mehajer has denied claims he staged a car crash in 2017 just before he was due to appear in court after he assaulted a taxi driver.
