Stacey Abrams, female presidential candidates call for action against wave of anti-abortion laws

By Vanessa Williams Vanessa Williams Reporter on the National desk. Email Bio Follow May 18 at 4:20 PM Georgia politician Stacey Abrams and four of the Democratic women running for president have joined forces to rally resistance against the wave of restrictive antiabortion laws moving through state legislatures.

It comes days after Alabama lawmakers approved, and the governor signed, what is being called the most restrictive abortion bill in the country, banning the procedure in almost all instances, including for victims of rape or incest. On Friday, Missouri lawmakers passed a similar law that bans abortions after eight weeks.

State lawmakers and antiabortion activists have said their goal is to force the issue up to the conservative-leaning Supreme Court in the hope of overturning Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 decision that legalized abortion nationwide, but with provisions for women’s health and prenatal care. The video was produced by Fair Fight Action, the political action committee that Abrams launched late last year to challenge laws that she says restrict voting rights. Fair Fight has been raising money for abortion rights groups in Georgia.

Why does this woman even rate a platform. She has never accomplished anything. Just trying to make a name for herself

What kind of action? To have one state overrule the decisions of another state’s representative government?

times have changed since Roe. Birth control is plentiful and easily accessible. The stigma of unwed mothers isn't what it was at all!

Stacey who?

I cant understand why so many people want to kill babies! They are the most innocent of all humans.. The babies our our future, without them humans would cease to exist..😢

Good job endorsing Stacy

Do we honestly care what Stacey Abrams thinks?

Abortion should be illegal. Women, Ladies & Girls spend more time keeping your Legs closed. 2ndly!!! Take 2 Birth control pills daily & get 2 Patches and a IUD.. There you go now you'll never have to have that baby. Do that You got insurance

These states need to learn once and for all they WILL not control us

Can't believe anything coming from that liar and race baiter.

Kill ‘em all let Planned Parenthood sort ‘em out.

The trump family and republicans are perfect examples as to why abortion should be legal

ZenobiaTettnang Great, thanks for continuing to frame this as women’s problem, fuckheads.

Why isn't staceyabrams running for Senate considering we MUST win the Senate? WTF are the democrats doing over there on the Hill anyways? Do they think this is some sort of game or something? Our democracy, our system of checks & balances, and our justice system is under attack.

You building her up as something she is not! The election wasn't even close that she lost! Great pr team tho

Is this where we take the lead from the Senate and just ignore this new rule of law?

Elect more women. Obviously.

You mean Murder Inc?

It is called 'heart beat bill' for a reason. This is coming from the same political party that allows termination up to 40 weeks- completely heinous.

I thought not accepting the results of an election was UnAmerican?

Here is the problem.

Is Stacy Abrams still pretending she is the governor?
