Whelan had applied for the job in April, had an interview early May and was offered the job the same day. It was then he was told he would have to undergo a drug test as a condition of his employment. “We’re around heavy moving equipment,” said James Campbell, a spokesperson for Halifax Water. “That’s really dangerous and we want to make sure that the folks working here are in their best possible position.”
“The reality is, if you are in the job market…you would be well advised to abstain from cannabis,” Houlihan said.
It should be the companies right to hire or not hire anyone they choose.
If I went to a job interview with alcohol on my breath they wouldn’t hire me either.
Poor Canadians, eh ?
Trudeau was SLY when he needed to gain votes while not stating what was gonna happen. Every Prov/Municipality/District/Employer can make their own management rulings in this regard. Tsk, Tsk, Trudeau. All for votes, while misleading once again.
Guess you could say his job application went “up in smoke” XD lamejoke
You were discriminated against, my friend. Get a lawyer.
Sounds like a lawsuit for Discrimination is pending. Better get Saul.
The industrial industry is unofficially guided by the insurance companies, and oh&s...you do not have to submit to a pre employment drug test, it is cheaper for them if they test you as an employee
Ridiculous
Imagine not getting a job because you drank alcohol a few days before getting a job offer
Is this the TheOnion ?
