The text that came through to the League Central boardroom was a slam dunk | SMHsport

The text message came through to the boardroom at League Central at 4.03pm. Sitting around the table was ARL Commission chairman Peter Beattie and his chiefs: chief executive Todd Greenberg, chief operating officer Nick Weeks and chief commercial officer Andrew Abdo.

“You have to remember, as was the case with Dylan Walker [who had been stood down before he was last week cleared of domestic violence charges], if Jack de Belin is found innocent by the courts, he will be welcome back to the game. This is about protecting the game of rugby league.” “That will be an ongoing exercise to make sure he has the amount of support and welfare that is needed. We have said this from the start: we make no judgement of anyone’s guilt or innocence. This is a rule that protects the brand and reputation of the game.”

Like most at the Dragons, McGregor has been stunned with de Belin’s strength of character in the last few months. Despite the Federal Court ruling, surely Beattie and Greenberg would privately admit they could’ve approached the de Belin situation with greater care.
