NEW: Pressed on Capitol Hill, Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin signals the battle for Pres. Trump's tax returns might ultimately have to be decided in court. 'If there is a difference of opinion, this will go to the third branch of government to be resolved.'

"There is a difference in interpretation between Congress and us and the Department of Justice that not only impacts the President in this Congress but has a very big impact on every single taxpayer in weaponizing the IRS," Mnuchin, told a Senate appropriations subcommittee."This is why there are three branches of government so if there is a difference of opinion, this will go to the third branch of government to be resolved.

The back-and-forth comes just days ahead of the looming subpoena deadline from the House Ways and Means Committee to Treasury Secretary and the IRS Commissioner for six years of President Donald Trump’s tax returns by May 17 and came after Mnuchin ignored Democrats’ earlier request.

Forget tax returns and get to work and stop wasting our tax money.

This cabinet member said it himself that is why there are THREE separate branches of government, what he needs to understand is that he and the IRS are not branches of government and with his answer justify’s Congressional oversite and request for trumps tax documents.

Mnuchin is a ass like Trump NO regard for the rule of law.. Congress is equal to Executive and Judical branchs of Govt. Each has their own job and power to oversea certain things. Congress is the lawmaker and the WATCH DOG for all that is said and done by a President.

He is right! The witch hunt needs to end. Prosecutorial politics needs to end

Everyone should try to minimize their tax bill by using legally available provisions in the tax code. If Trump did so that would be a smart thing because not doing so would be stupidity.

Lock him up. Let’ssee how strong his resolve really is.

Then all politicians should be forced to give all information like college information, unless you’re Obama of course.

stevenmnuchin1 and Charles Rettig should be fined daily in increasing amounts and put in jail until they honor the congressional subpoenas they have been served. Obstructing justice on behalf of the potus is a CRIME.
