Cancer con woman Belle Gibson has finally appeared in court to explain her ongoing failure to pay a $410,000 penalty for deceiving Australians.
Gibson remarked to the waiting media scrum outside the court entrance: “I think it’s sad the media are reduced to covering stories like this. They should be covering more important things." She deceived well-meaning customers, claiming the money from the sale of her Whole Pantry app and book sales would be donated to various charities.Although Gibson received $440,500 from sales of the app and book, she only donated about $10,000 to charity.
The judge described Gibson as having a “relentless obsession with herself” when she handed down her penalty in September, 2017.
