PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has won his appeal against the RM200,000 in damages he was ordered to pay to the National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd executive chairperson Mohamad Salleh Ismail and his company, for defamation three years ago., a three-member Court of Appeal bench, led by judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer, made the decision today, after finding there was merit to the former Pandan MP's appeal.
"The appeal has merit, and we are allowing with costs," the portal quoted Hamid Sultan saying. The other two judges on the bench were Hanipah Farikullah and Kamaludin Md Said.NFC with regard to his statement of"using government funds as leverage to gain loans for eight properties", and ordered to pay RM150,000 to Salleh and RM50,000 to NFC. They were also awarded costs of RM100,000.
Neither Salleh nor Rafizi were in court during the proceedings, while lawyer Sarah Abishegam conducted the case for Salleh and NFC. The appellate bench then ordered Salleh and NFCorp to refund the RM300,000 in damages and costs within 30 days, or risk incurring a five percent interest per annum, until the payment is settled.
Hamid also reportedly awarded RM100,000 in costs before the High Court, and RM10,000 in the Court of Appeal.
