A federal magistrate agreed on Tuesday to release a Coast Guard lieutenant accused of planning a mass killing into supervised custody with relatives while he’s awaiting trial.
“He’s got to have a whole lot of supervision,” Day said during a hearing in late April. “Somebody who’s got eyes and ears on him like nobody’s business.” Hasson’s defense attorney, Liz Oyer, said that the government was trying to prosecute her client for “private thoughts” and that “they have not come forward with evidence that Mr. Hasson is a domestic terrorist because he is not.”
