The judge in the trial of two teenage boys accused of the murder of 14-year-old Anastasia Kriégel has told the jury that he has made an order restricting publication of evidence given in the trial until its conclusion. He reminded the jurors that media coverage of the case was not relevant to their deliberations and that they should decide their verdict exclusively on the evidence given in court.
He said it was his duty to maintain the integrity of the trial process to ensure a true verdict in accordance with the evidence. The two boys deny murdering the schoolgirl at a derelict farmhouse near St Catherine's Park in Lucan in Dublin on 14 May 2018.
It does not serve the public interest to publish details from every day of this case. To do so is purely for clicks and morally bankrupt.
Absolutely the correct decision. Should have been in place from the outset.
Good. The poor girl’s family have been through enough without every detail being heard on the news every hour. God rest her.
Good call - there is no need for the public to know anything about the victim's background. The victim is not on trial. I don't recall hearing anything about the character or medical history of the victim in the Faunagown murder trial.
