: Federal Court judge Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat has been named the new chief justice, becoming the country’s first woman to hold the top judicial post.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced her appointment effective today. It said the appointment has received the consent of the Agong and the Council of Rulers, based on Article 122B of the Federal Constitution. Tengku Maimun takes over from Richard Malanjum, who ended his tenure on April after reaching his retirement age of 66 years in October last year and given a six-month extension which ended on April 12.
