Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has locked horns with the barrister for former politician David Leyonhjelm in a tense exchange in the Federal Court, after being forced to clarify her public statements about men's violence against women were not directed at "all men".
Mr Leyonhjelm told the media, including the ABC, Sky News and Melbourne radio station 3AW, that he made the comment in response to an alleged claim by Senator Hanson-Young that "all men are rapists". She denies making this claim.Senator Hanson-Young is suing Mr Leyonhjelm for defaming her by suggesting she made such an "absurd" claim.
"That is of course, sir, not all men. I'm talking about the men who behave like that," Senator Hanson-Young told Mr Leyonhjelm's barrister, Tony Morris, QC. In a testy exchange with Mr Morris, Senator Hanson-Young said Mr Leyonhjelm had also not qualified his "stop shagging men" comment by referring to "some" men.
