A high-ranking lawyer claims her CEO directed her to serve cake at a party because she’s a woman

By Deanna Paul Deanna Paul Reporter covering national and breaking news Email Bio Follow April 30 at 5:45 PM In 2014, as a lawyer with two decades of experience, Nancy Saltzman joined ExlService Holdings as its general counsel. At the time, she was the most senior female executive at the publicly traded consulting firm, whose leadership team was dominated by men.

The lack of diversity among Exl leadership was “startling,” according to Russell Kornblith, who is representing Saltzman in the suit. The workplace culture exhibited “stark examples of gender stereotypes” under a management team that was “staggeringly tone deaf." “Humiliated, Ms. Saltzman was forced to walk across the room to cut and plate slices of cake for the Company’s male employees,” court documents recount, “the vast majority of whom were subordinate to her in rank.”

“Nancy Saltzman did everything right,” Kornblith told The Washington Post. “She became someone who many women in the company looked up to. Then they put the wolf in charge of the henhouse.”

It appears that Ms. Saltzman was long a victim of workplace harassment and discrimination. Instructing her (one of 4 ladies), a very snr. exec at that, to serve cake to junior members was humiliating. Bottom line: it was more than just cutting cake: but 'putting her in her place'

Was it a woman? Then it's normal that she had to serve the cake. Of course! Lawyer or not, doesn't matter. Someone has to..

She should be thankful she wasn't asked to scoop the ice cream. Way harder... especially digging into the rock hard, frozen stuff. Your arm gets tired.

'I felt so threatened...so demeaned... Sure, everyone was asked to serve each other, but I'm an overly sensitive, affirmative action hire out of my depth...what else could I do to change the subject? Besides, men are shit.'

I am so sick of this kind of behavior by thoese cromagnon apes still behaving as such. WOMEN ARE EQUAL TO MEN you jerks! I hope she gets every penny, and more, from this lawsuit. EqualityForAll WomensRights

She sounds arrogant.

Good for her!!!!

If you were an employer would you want an employee who bitched and moaned? Serve the cake and bill 1000 an hour for it. Life isn’t fair

Sad

the American people are sick of your lies. We realize the bad bad stuff you’re doing.

Should of served it in their laps and walked out!

There you go
