Cuyahoga County Prosecutor O'Malley says he wants to shed light on the problems in the juvenile justice system

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley is fed up with juvenile court judges letting kids skate on serious charges. He says the crimes can then escalate.

In March 2023, a 17-year-old boy carjacked a 32-year-old man at gunpoint on West 100 Street and Loretta Avenue. In February of this year, he was found guilty of aggravated robbery with a gun. “Within three months of being put on probation for a carjacking, he’s in another stolen car with a gun, speeding 85 I believe in the 25, and hits an innocent victim, severely injures them, but also kills an individual who is riding in the car with him,” O’Malley explained. The prosecutor says the teen ran a red light at East 79th and Kinsman crashing into a car driven by a 55-year-old woman. The 17 and 18-year-old girls riding with him were thrown out of the car.
