Alec Baldwin was left in tears as the trial over the Rust shooting incident was unexpectedly dropped. The 66 year old actor, known for his role in Married to the Mob, broke down on Friday, 12 July, when the involuntary manslaughter charge against him was dismissed.
If convicted, he could have faced up to 18 months in prison. He had previously released a statement to say his 'heart is broken' over the incident and had pleaded not guilty. The fatal incident occurred while Alec was rehearsing a scene on the Rust set. The gun he was holding discharged, killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring the film's director Joel Souza, 51.
Alec's lawyer, Luke Nikas, expressed frustration in court, saying: "We're talking about a prosecution that didn't preserve those bullets, that didn't collect them at all. That didn't turn them over."
