KUCHING: Sarawak's efforts to reclaim state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 should be done through the proper channels, says Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud."I believe these committees are the best platform for us to negotiate and get back our rights.
The federal government has set up a special Cabinet committee to look into the implementation of MA63, while Sarawak has a consultative committee to advise the state's representatives in the special committee. "I am confident the Chief Minister and all those involved in the negotiations will continue to put Sarawak's interests and development agenda as their top priority," he said.
The tax, estimated to bring in RM3.8bil a year, would be an important source of revenue for the state's development needs, he said.
