Asif Rafiq, who was suspended after the incident in February 2023, was handed a community payback order at Ayr Sheriff Court.

A pervert teacher who sexually assaulted a female pupil on school grounds has avoided jail. Asif Rafiq, 48, lost his job as a technological studies teacher after groping a female student in February last year.Yesterday the disgraced former educator was handed a Community Payback Order , which includes 18 months supervision and 200 hours of unpaid work. For 18 months, any employment or voluntary opportunities will need to be approved by his supervisor.

The post was accompanied by a picture of Rafiq holding flowers and a bottle of champagne. The post was retweeted by the General Teaching Council for Scotland at the time. The school has now deleted all traces of Rafiq from their website and social media pages. Locals were left shocked when the former teacher's behaviour came to light. Further concerns were raised in May when the Record revealed that the sex offender had been working at a petrol station in East Ayrshire, close to a number of schools.
