A man has appeared in court charged in connection with an incident of 'burglary and criminal damage' in Kerry which saw a number of members of Gardaí allegedly threatened with a machete earlier in the week.

The disturbing sequence of events unfolded at around 7.45pm on Monday. Gardaí received reports of a burglary and criminal damage incident at a residence in Rylane, Abbeyfeale, Kerry. Assistance was sought from a number of Garda units including the Armed Support Unit, the Air Support Unit and the Dog Unit.

Following an intervention by the Armed Support Unit where less-than-lethal force devices were utilized including the use of a taser, the suspect was arrested and was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Co. Kerry.
