For the sake of its international reputation, Canada must not grant a DPA to SNC-Lavalin GlobeDebate

. The OECD leads the global fight against bribery, an activity which, it explains, “raises serious moral and political concerns, undermines good governance and economic development, and distorts international competitive conditions.”and adopted the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act to implement its obligations into Canadian law. The act criminalizes the bribery of foreign officials by Canadian citizens, permanent residents and companies incorporated here.

There is no ambiguity concerning the scope and substance of this obligation. Under international law, a treaty’s terms are to be interpreted in accordance with their ordinary meaning, in their context and in light of the treaty’s object and purpose., adopted alongside it in 1997: “Article 5 recognizes the fundamental nature of national regimes of prosecutorial discretion.

Reputations matter. Countries with good reputations for prosecuting economic crimes are better able to attract investment from other “rule of law” countries. They are also better able to protect their own companies from corruption, discrimination and expropriation abroad.

GlobeDebate Globe and Mail trying to politically interfere now? Where is Ja Rule so I can make sense of all this?!

GlobeDebate DavidLametti = 🙈🙉🙊 cdnpoli SNCLavalin SNCLavalinScandal

GlobeDebate Sunny ways has no doubt already singed off on it. Disgraceful!

GlobeDebate Domestic reputation too. Thousands of Canadian companies operate in higher-corruption regions and follow our laws. A free pass for SNC's bribery is a signal to them the government is happy to turn a blind eye if you have the right friends in high places.

GlobeDebate Given the constructive dismissal of JWR as AG, David Lametti will look like he is following orders by granting a DPA. And if looks like a duck...

GlobeDebate Too late snc already paid for a dpa

GlobeDebate Globe is certainly there against Trudeau & Liberals. Apparently now saying there is no way current AG can use his discretion while insisting former AG could use hers. No one ever argued a treaty prohibition when U.S. ents into a deferred prosecution agreement. I wonder why?

GlobeDebate 2/2...the Libs have delayed a decision on TMX again while rumours swirling that PMO/Trudeau pondering delaying/cancelling TMX decision till after election. Why? Is it so DavidLametti can grant DPA to SNC so they can build TMX? (Even tho contractors have already been chosen)

GlobeDebate 1/2 Connect the Dots: TO lawyer Frank Iacobucci is a powerful Liberal whom Trudeau appointed to head First Nation consultations on TMX. He was also the lawyer SNC Lav hired to persuade Libs to put Omnibus Bill (in budget bill) so they could access DPA. Now, we know...

GlobeDebate Our reputation died long ago thanks to Junior

GlobeDebate Since when has the Canada's reputation ever mattered to JustinTrudeau ?

GlobeDebate PPSC already decided not to soooo....it’s a done deal. Unless the Gov’t wants to interfere 🤔

GlobeDebate ffs G&M give it up. All the other developed Countries offer similar plea deals. My advice do what is best for Canadians.

GlobeDebate Isn't DavidLametti a puppet of JustinTrudeau and snclavalin. JustinTrudeau couldn't get Puglaas to change her mind, but she wasn't one JustinTrudeau puppets.
