Court interdicts Numsa strike at Ford over bonuses

The motoring company previously said the protest would have reputational risks for the country's business and manufacturing sectors.

Workers striking at the Ford Silverton Assembly Plant in Pretoria have been ordered to return to work next week after the motoring company successfully obtained an interdict at the Labour Court. This week, the National Union of Metalworkers South Africa announced it would embark on strike action on Thursday over the non-payment of bonuses for its workers.

"The reason for the strike is that Ford refuses to share its profits with workers. Our members are the creators of wealth, and Ford has benefitted hugely from the sweat and labour of its workers," Numsa secretary-general Irvin Jim previously said.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
