Today, Thursday, July 4, saw Joynes sentenced to six and a half years' imprisonment for six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, including two while being a person in a position of trust, following a two-week trial in May.
Passing sentence, Judge Kate Cornell told the defendant: “There is a breathtaking arrogance in your conduct. “Instead, you abused that position of trust and exploited the privileged role for your own sexual gratification.” Following the sentencing, the NSPCC released a damning statement. It said: "Joynes abused her position of trust and authority as a teacher to groom and sexually abuse one of her pupils. While suspended she then used social media to start communicating with another teenage boy from her school who she then went on to sexually abuse.
