Joynes arrived at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday morning after being convicted of six sexual offences, including sexual activity with a child. The former teacher groomed the pupils from the age of 15.
She was on bail for sexual activity with the first victim, known as Boy A, when she began having sex with the second, Boy B, by whom she went on to become pregnant. She arrived in court dressed all in black and wearing white trainers, while she and her dad carried heavy shopping bags - presumably for her stay in jail.
The trial, which ended in May with six guilty verdicts, heard bombshell testimony from Boy A who told the court he was taken shopping by his teacher, who bought him a £350 Gucci belt before the pair went back to Joynes' flat on Salford Quays and had sex.The court also heard from the mother of one of the boys who told of the moment she found "love bites" on her 15-year-old son's neck after he spent a night at Joynes' flat.
After she was found guilty, Jane Wilson, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West, branded Joynes a sexual predator. She said: “Rebecca Joynes is a sexual predator. Joynes was entrusted with the responsibility of teaching and safeguarding children. She abused her position to groom and ultimately sexually exploit schoolboys. Her behaviour has had a lasting impact on them.
“The CPS worked with Greater Manchester Police to build a strong case to put before the jury, including eyewitness testimony, phone evidence showing the messages sent by Joynes and CCTV footage. I would like to thank the victims for supporting the prosecution. Joynes will now face the consequences of her actions.”
