Friends and family of Rodney Reed gathered in Bastrop Wednesday afternoon to discuss what's next afterHe's been on Texas' death row for more than two decades after being convicted for the 1996 murder of Stacey Stites in Bastrop. Reed has maintained his innocence from the beginning.
"The message today is to stay involved," Reed's brother, Rodrick Reed, said. "Stay involved and be aware of what's going on in your community." The Innocence Project, which has been defending Reed for years, says a separate case is going before the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans next month. It's requesting certain crime scene evidence be subjected to DNA testing for the first time.
