A legal expert has confirmed whether King Charles will cast a vote in the United Kingdom’s general election on Thursday as Brits start heading to the polls.
Dr Craig Prescott, lecturer in law and a constitutional expert at Royal Holloway University of London clarified that Charles, 75, is technically allowed to vote, but no monarch has ever cast a ballot in an election. "In this sense, the practice that the monarch does not vote reflects that they are part of parliament, and it is for the general public to choose who represents them in the Commons."
However, no senior royal has ever placed a vote for fear of jeopardising the royal family’s political neutrality. Harry is technically entitled to vote in the UK's general election. Picture: Dan Kitwood/Getty Images.
