A trial for Sydney man Robbie Awad is underway in north Queensland following the death of his wife in a golf buggy rollover on their honeymoon.
Following their wedding in Sydney, the pair travelled to Hamilton Island in June 2022 for their honeymoon. The court heard Mr Awad had used his mobile phone earlier but it was back in his pocket before the buggy tipped. "He stopped, determined it was safe to turn … turned onto the flattest part of Coral Sea Crescent and by that time the vehicle was barely crawling," he said.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Linden Pollard said the buggy flipped because of the driving speed and the angle of the road.He told the court Mr Awad's U-turn was in the "completely wrong direction".
