A man who bought a 3D printer to help his autistic son with school work has been granted bail after spending nine months in jail on weapons manufacture charges.

Mr Tyler has spent nine months in jail but will likely receive a non-custodial sentence later this month.

The 57-year-old, who has spent more than nine months in prison, appeared in person on Thursday at the District Court in Taree.Tyler told the court he purchased the printer for about $300 and became curious about what it could do. "I didn't grasp the gravity of it, it was a really foolish thing to do and I really do regret it," he said.
