UMkhonto weSizwe Party has withdrawn its case against the Electoral Commission of South Africa at the Electoral Court over the results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.
The MK Party believed that the elections results that were announced by the IEC on 2 June were not free and fair.As per the IEC, the Jacob Zuma-led party obtained over 2.3 million votes in the historic 29 May polls and 58 seats in Parliament. The party is also represented in a umber of legislatures especially in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.The overall results of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. The MK Party is now the third-biggest political party in South Africa.
and that it was not in the interests of justice to grant the party direct access to the highest court. “The applicant has failed to show any justification for not bringing this application sooner,” the court noted, adding that the urgency of the application was “self-created.” The court further found that the MK Party had misconstrued relevant constitutional provisions and failed to provide sufficient facts to establish a prima facie case for its main application.
