Overpriced, second-hand pasteurising plant equipment for Estina Dairy Farm exposed in court

Pasteurising plant equipment imported for use on the Estina Dairy Farm cost more than double what new equipment was worth, the Pretoria Magistrate's Court heard on Wednesday.

Not only that. The imported equipment, the court heard, was second-hand but was not declared as such. The revelation came from State witness Dawid Maree, the agriculture information and marketing head at FNB South Africa, who testified that although the customs declaration for the equipment was for more than R37.7 million, brand new equipment would have cost just over R14 million.South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future.
