McFarlane, 35, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week. He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at his then home in Carnoustie Crescent on July 30 last year.

A knifeman who threatened to kill police officers during a four-hour stand-off at his home has avoided prison.

He also admitted assaulting a police officer by waving a knife and threatening him, reports Lanarkshire Live. "McFarlane went towards the officers who retreated to a position of safety. They asked him to drop the items but he took a step towards them and said 'Throw your weapons away or I'll stick this knife through both of you'. One of the officers had withdrawn his Pava spray at this point.
