A judge here has rejected a request for a new trial for Miranda Casarez, the San Antonio woman convicted for her part in the starvation death of her then-boyfriend’s young son in 2021. A Bexar County jury on April 17 found Casarez, 25, guilty of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury by omission for the death of Benjamin “Benji” Cervera, 4. The next day, the panel sentenced her to 25 years in prison. Her attorney, Anthony B. Cantrell, is appealing the conviction.
