The Illinois ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines will remain in place, at least for now.

Peter Hancock, Capitol News IllinoisThe U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a challenge to an Illinois ban on assault weapons and large capacity magazines.

Illinois lawmakers enacted the ban last year in response to a mass shooting at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park in 2022 that left seven people dead and dozens more injured. The announcement by the Supreme Court leaves the appellate court's order in place as challenges progress.
