This is a disastrous decision that tells us we cannot rely on the Supreme Court’s current majority to protect the nation against abusive acts by Trump should he return to the White House. He now knows how much room he has for abusing power. The close of Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent says it all: “If the occupant of that office misuses official power for personal gain, the criminal law that the rest of us must abide will not provide a backstop.”E.J.
