Gordhan's attorney Tebogo Malatji is accusing Mkhwebane's investigating team of not cooperating and withholding new information which may have arisen from EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu's complaint. The minister's legal team also argues that since the matter dates back ten years -- when he was SARS Commissioner -- there should be new conditions or evidence to warrant a fresh investigation.
To put a spanner in the works in this impasse, Mkhwebane's office says it suspects there may be collusion in answers provided by current SARS employees, who have been subpoenaed.Oupa Segalwe claims a meeting was held at the revenue service's offices but can't confirm or deny whether Gordhan was present.Mkhwebane has since issued a scathing statement against the minister, after granting him an extension to file his supporting documents.
