On the same day the Tampa Bay Lightning acquired his negotiating rights from the Carolina Hurricanes, the club agreed to a new contract with coveted winger Jake Guentzel, 29, on Sunday, adding another prized goal scorer to Jon Cooper's group of forwards.

Full details on the signing should be announced on Monday, with the expectation that the contract will carry a seven-year term.earlier on Sunday in exchange for a 2025 third-round draft pick. That gave Tampa Bay an exclusive negotiating window with Guentzel ahead of Monday's unrestricted free-agent market opening., who becomes an unrestricted free agent on Monday.

Guentzel was one of the most highly coveted forwards on the free agent market heading into the offseason. With his arrival in Tampa, that honor might now be bestowed on Stamkos.
