Readers react to a Louisiana law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in public classrooms.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signs bills at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School in Lafayette, La., on June 19.

Parents have every right to teach their children religion at home, where their beliefs are not imposed on others. But Louisiana has better things to do with its money than litigate the constitutionality of a law that so clearly violates the First Amendment. The free exercise and establishment clauses of the First Amendment should always be read together to define the scope of religious protection under our Constitution..

I am reminded of Romans 2:6, “For God will reward each of us according to what we have done.” Reward is a double-edged sword and depends upon the heart and deeds of each of us. Be careful, you so-called Christians who press your tainted political beliefs upon the children of God.are God’s children, regardless of the name by which we know Him.

Also, while we are in the midst of a debate about keeping material in school libraries that is not age appropriate, this move would have first-graders talking about adultery and coveting thy neighbor’s wife.My question is which Ten Commandments? The Ten Commandments inscribed on the wall of Christ Church in Alexandria are not the same as the ones written in the Old Testament, sometimes called the Hebrew Bible.
