The Department of Justice has confirmed the Timor-Leste’s Court of Appeals has granted the Philippines’ request for the extradition of fugitive and former Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr.
“The Department of Justice confirms the grant of the extradition request made by the Philippine government. The information was relayed to us by the Attorney-General of Timor Leste,” DOJ Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Jose Dominic Clavano said in a text message to reporters. He explained that Teves’ release came after he concluded his house arrest. The former solon was released on June 21 at 6 p.m. .
“We confirm the release of Teves from house arrest. However, he will strictly be not allowed to leave Timor Leste until a final ruling on his extradition has been reached,” Clavano said.
