'Right thing to do': Julian Assange's lawyer hints at pursuing pardon after WikiLeaks founder pleads guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage

Human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson has said a pardon would be"the right thing" for her client Julian Assange. Picture: Sky News Australia “The word pardon has been discussed over the last number of years. It is something I think press freedom groups are talking about already because of the precedence that was set.”

Ms Robinson explained: “We’ve had the admission from the US government, in the context of that plea deal, that no actual harm was caused as a result of WikiLeaks publications.” “We will be looking at all options but right now we’re just enjoying the fact that he’s home and he’s safe,” she said. In response to allegations Assange was not a journalist but an activist, Ms Robinson defended her client’s work and WikiLeaks’ journalistic integrity.
