This is the latest round of arrests by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission , which is investigating a protection racket involving transport companies and lorry drivers.
It brings the total number of suspects being remanded over the suspected lorry protection racket to 38. At 10.20am on Wednesday, the men, aged between 33 and 55, were brought before the Penang magistrate's court.The case is being investigated under Section 17 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.the Penang Road Transport Department were brought before the magistrate’s court and remanded in connection with alleged involvement in “protecting” lorry drivers.
Earlier on Wednesday , the George Town magistrate's court had ordered 30 suspects, including 24 JPJ enforcement personnel, to be remanded for seven days ending Tuesday to assist in the same probe. According to sources, the enforcement officers are believed to have received monthly payments, totalling between RM10,000 and RM32,000.The payment was also for tip-offs, which the companies and drivers received, to alert them on JPJ operations.
All should be sacked for good to teach &send a strong message to civil servants on intergrity which the rakyat has no faith on such pledges.
