Kids in Court, a program that aims to reduce anxiety for children testifying in court, celebrated its 30th year Friday.

Hundreds of families partake in the Kids in Court program each year, which was first introduced to Dallas in 1994

Children and their families sat at round tables, eating pizza, cupcakes and candy before members from participating organizations spoke about their role in the program. Children took turns getting their faces painted and requesting balloon animals. The children and families remain anonymous because they are involved in ongoing cases.

The program is spearheaded by the district attorney’s office in partnership with the National Council of Jewish Women of Greater Dallas, Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and Bikers Against Child Abuse. As part of the program, volunteer experts introduce the courtroom and explain the trial process to ease any anxieties the children may have prior to testifying.
