A bus driver charged after a Brisbane CBD crash in which an 18-year-old woman died has been abused in court. Lindsay Francis Selby, 70, was also targeted by the victim’s supporters outside Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, in heated scenes. Emotions boiled over as Selby appeared in court for the first time over the March 8 peak-hour crash. Police allege Selby was driving a bus that mounted the kerb after 5pm during peak hour, pinning pedestrian Tia Cameron against a building in the CBD.
Magistrate Ross Mack pushed Selby’s mention on Wednesday back half an hour as a large group of Cameron’s supporters arrived in court for the matter. The courtroom was packed with many forced to stand when Selby appeared, including the victim’s many supporters who were wearing T-shirts with Cameron’s picture. Selby was abused as he left the courtroom, prompting the magistrate to ask whether security was required, but his defence declined. Selby’s supporters shielded him as he exited.
