) - Is the state agency in charge of standing up for abused children doing enough to keep them safe? It’s a question FOX10 News is asking about the Alabama Department of Human Resources . We began digging for answers last week after reporting on a case of alleged child abuse in Robertsdale. In the last few days, I’ve spoken with multiple sources who work with DHR social workers and are familiar with staffing challenges the office currently faces.
Investigators at Robertsdale Police said they discovered four prior reports of alleged child abuse were made to Baldwin County DHR but said none of them were ever turned over to law enforcementFOX10 News is committed to finding out why those reports never left the office. I first reached out to Baldwin County DHR but was told nobody there would talk to me and to call the Montgomery office, so I did.
“I’ve heard those concerns from law enforcement. I’ve heard those concerns from educators, and I’ve heard those concerns from DHR professionals themselves and so I’ve communicated those concerns to the commissioner and her staff, and I have asked for them to get involved, to investigate some of these concerns,” Senator Elliot said on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.
