Tia Cameron, 18, had just minutes earlier left a salon appointment and was standing on the footpath when she was hit by the bus.

A Brisbane City Council bus driver charged over a crash that allegedly killed Tia Cameron has appeared in court for the first time.

Police allege Lindsay Francis Selby, 70, was driving the bus along Edward Street on March 8 when it left the road and struck Cameron, before crashing into the Anzac Square Arcade building about 5pm.Cameron had just minutes earlier left a salon appointment and was standing on the footpath when she was hit by the bus. She was remembered by her family as caring and loving, and they said she had plans to study, travel the world with her boyfriend and buy her first home next year.

Pedestrians and other commuters in the peak hour traffic witnessed the crash, which also caused minor injuries to four passengers on the bus. Forensic crash investigators had worked for weeks to piece together how the crash occurred, before charging Selby earlier this month with one count of careless driving causing death.

Selby’s case was briefly mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday, with several members of Cameron’s family attending the proceeding.More to come.
