The state Supreme Court said the first-of-its-kind school, approved last year by the charter school board, violated the state and U.S. constitution.

and that the state is prohibited from using public money for the establishment of a religious institution. GOP Attorney General Gentner Drummond, who filed a lawsuit against the proposed school in October, wrote in a statement that the decision “is a tremendous victory for religious liberty. The framers of the U.S. Constitution and those who drafted Oklahoma’s Constitution clearly understood how best to protect religious freedom — by preventing the State from sponsoring any religion at all.

St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School was to be operated by the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City and the Diocese of Tulsa, and leaders said religion would be infused throughout the curriculum.
