The Dáil will vote on Wednesday night on whether to renew the 1998 Offences Against the State Act and Section 8 of the 2009 Criminal Justice Act. Introducing the debate, she welcomed the lowering of the threat level in Northern Ireland from “severe” to “substantial” but said this still meant “an attack is likely. Regrettably, there remains a real and persistent threat from paramilitary groups.”
The Minister added that, following the recommendation of the independent review group, she would be consulting relevant State agencies on the issue of jury reform and the need to improve transparency around the operation of the Special Criminal Court.
