Victoria to introduce pill testing at music festivals and events from December after Jacinta Allan agrees to drug checking trial
"I want to begin by being really upfront about my own personal views on this issue. If you'd asked me a number of years ago, this wasn't something I was particularly convinced on," she reflected. "Our two kids are growing up, and soon enough they'll be heading off to parties and to music festivals and as a parent… you just can't help but think what are the things we have in place to help keep young people safe. The government has also faced intense pressure in recent months from members of the crossbench, including Animal Justice Party MP Georgie Purcell, Greens MP Aiv Puglielli and Legalise Cannabis Party MP Rachel Payne, to introduce pill testing.
However, she said she wanted"to be really clear here – this doesn't make drugs legal and it most certainly does not make drugs safe". Itâs great to hear that pill testing is happening, now we need to make sure itâs rolled out widely and quickly by the Summer festival period."As one of the youngest members of the Victorian Parliament, I know the reality is people take drugs. And now, we will finally make it safer for them to do so," she said.
