Myanmar's Supreme Court has upheld seven-year prison sentences for two Reuters journalists, days after they and their colleagues won a Pulitzer Prize.

FILE - In this Sept. 3, 2018, combination file photo, Reuters journalists Kyaw Soe Oo, left, and Wa Lone, are handcuffed as they are escorted by police out of a court in Yangon, Myanmar. Myanmar's Supreme Court on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, rejected the final appeal of the two Reuters journalists and upheld seven-year prison sentences for their reporting on the military's brutal crackdown on Rohingya Muslims.

The reporters were arrested in December 2017 and sentenced last September after being accused of illegally possessing official documents, a violation of a colonial-era law. Khin Maung Zaw, a lawyer for the two, had said the latest appeal argued that lower court rulings involved errors in judicial procedure.

Investigators working for the U.N.’s top human rights body said last year that genocide charges should be brought against senior Myanmar military officers, while other critics accused the army of ethnic cleansing. As a result of his testimony, he was jailed for a year for violating the Police Disciplinary Act and his family was forced to leave their police housing unit.

Wow, send them some freedom

Disgrace!!! Release them!

Ironic AF

if your spying for or colluding with a foreign government you can not call yourself a reporter

LowellRoemer Pulitzer Prize is a fake reward for fake journalists. Trump-Russia conspiracy theorists were also rewarded. What a joke!

Probably for writing bad things about Myanmar 🇲🇲.

Pulitzers dont matter much these days do they?

Oh dear God! Any other American president would have been demanding the release of the free press. Everyday we see the effects of having a tyrant pose as a democratic leader. Ugh!

Shameful UN SecPompeo cafreeland

Let us not forget what truths they were bringing to light. Today there are over a million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. That country's facing enormous pressure to its infrastructure. These journalists exposed the real Myanmar, a dictatorial military regime in democracy cloak.

remember when Jim Acosta lost his hall pass and the media lost their minds. Well here's an actual story about suppressing journalists, let's sit back and see if the media has the same reaction

If the Pulitzer is for Trump collusion coverage I dare say I sympathize with Myanmar just a little

I think you mean Burma

💔 So wrong 💔
