Anti-gun violence and domestic abuse prevention organizations see this ruling as clearing the way for Pennsylvania to enact a so-called red flag law.

Anti-gun violence and domestic violence prevention groups in Pennsylvania are hoping this U.S. Supreme Court ruling handed down on Friday could clear the way for the state Senate to consider a House-passed "red flag" law that allows the temporary confiscation of firearms from individuals determined to be at risk of causing harm to themselves or others.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday upheld a federal gun control law that is intended to protect victims of domestic violence. In the court’s first Second Amendment case since it expanded gun rights in 2022, the justices ruled 8-1 in favor of a 1994 ban on firearms for people under restraining orders to stay away from their spouses or partners.
