The jury has been discharged in the Old Bailey trial of aristocrat Constance Marten and her partner Mark Gordon over the death of their newborn baby.

LISTEN:An aristocrat accused of killing her baby faces the prospect of a retrial after the jury was discharged from reaching verdicts in a five month case estimated to have cost millions.

Police launched a national hunt for the parents after finding a placenta in their car, which they abandoned when it burst into flames near Bolton in Greater Manchester, on January 5 last year. After a total of 72 hours and 33 minutes, the jury foreman told the Old Bailey that they were unable to reach verdicts.
